Newsletters and unsubscribing

Ask your AI to "clean up my newsletters". It lists your mailing lists, noisiest first, with how often each one writes, how many you left unread, and a suggestion. It unsubscribes only after you approve each one, and only where the sender supports one-click unsubscribe.

How do I see all my newsletters?

Ask "show me my newsletters", use the Clean up newsletters starter prompt, or open the Newsletters tab in the inbox view. You get one row per sender, noisiest first:

  • How many messages are in your synced mail, and how many are unread.
  • How many it sends a week, based on up to the last four weeks of synced mail.
  • A noise level based on how often it writes and how much of it you leave unread. Very noisy senders are tagged Noisy.
  • A suggestion: unsubscribe, archive, or keep. Senders you have replied to, VIPs, and notifications from services you use are always "keep". Quiet notifications in that service.
  • In the numbered text list, whether one-click unsubscribe is offered.

In apps that show views, each row has Unsubscribe… and Archive all. In a terminal, say "unsubscribe from 1 and 3".

How does unsubscribing work?

  1. You pick a sender. Unsubscribe… sends the request to your AI in the chat.
  2. Your AI checks the email for a one-click unsubscribe link. It shows an approval prompt, or gives you a link to an approval page.
  3. Choose Unsubscribe there. Saying yes in chat is not enough. You can also find it under Waiting for you on Today on the website.
  4. Inbox Triage sends one request to the sender. Nothing in your inbox is deleted or moved.

The approval expires after about 15 minutes. If it does, ask again.

On the website, you can also open a message from Today and choose Unsubscribe, when the sender supports one-click.

What if one-click is not available?

  • If the sender only offers an email address for unsubscribing, your AI tells you the address. It never sends that email for you.
  • If the link is not a safe one-click link, your AI gives you the link to open yourself.

How do I archive everything from one sender?

Archive all, or "archive everything from this sender", takes that sender's mail out of your inbox. You can undo it. It is never offered for VIP senders, and it is hidden when nothing from that sender is left in your inbox.

From chat, for more than 5 messages your AI shows you the count first, and for more than 25 it shows a preview and waits for your yes.
