Labels and stars on Gmail

On Gmail and Google Workspace inboxes, your AI can star messages and apply your existing Gmail labels. On Outlook, iCloud, and IMAP, ask your AI in chat to star or flag a message. Labels are Gmail only.

How do I star or label in the inbox view?

  • Open a Gmail message and choose Star or Unstar.
  • Choose Label…, pick a label, and choose Apply label.
  • To label several messages, select them in the same Gmail inbox and choose Label… in the bar.

The Star and Label buttons show on Gmail messages only.

How do I do it in chat?

  • "Star the email from Dana."
  • "Label these receipts as Taxes."
  • "Remove the Follow up label from the last three."

Your AI can label or star up to 50 messages at a time. VIP mail is skipped when labeling several messages. Label those one at a time.

Why is my label missing?

The picker lists the labels you made in Gmail. Inbox Triage does not create labels. If you have none, or the one you want is missing, make it in Gmail first, then open the picker again.

What about Outlook, iCloud, and IMAP?

Ask your AI in chat to star or flag a message, and use archive, trash, and spam. Labels are not available. Your AI can also read other folders if you ask it to sync them. See What gets synced.
