How do I connect Gmail to Claude or ChatGPT?
- Create an Inbox Triage account. The trial needs no card.
- On the Inboxes page, add your Gmail or Workspace address and choose Connect. Sign in with Google.
- Add Inbox Triage to your AI app once. In Claude, add a custom connector with
https://getinboxtriage.com/mcpand sign in. In ChatGPT, turn on Developer mode (paid plans) and create an app with the same address. In Claude Code, run one command. See the steps for each app. - Ask your AI: "What needs me in my inbox today?"
What your AI can do in Gmail
- Read and search your mail, including older mail through Gmail search.
- Show what needs you first, with your VIPs at the top.
- Archive, move to Trash, or mark as spam. Each change can be undone for 7 days.
- Star messages and apply your Gmail labels.
- Find newsletters and unsubscribe, after you approve it.
- Write replies in your Drafts folder, and send one after you turn sending on and approve it.
What it cannot do
- See your Google password. Google handles the sign-in.
- Send without your approval. Sending is off until you turn it on.
- Permanently delete mail. Inbox Triage does not ask Google for that permission.
- Read Spam or Trash.

Can Claude read my Gmail?
Yes. Connect Gmail to Inbox Triage, then add Inbox Triage to Claude as a custom connector. Claude can then read, search, and sort your mail.
Can ChatGPT access more than one Gmail account?
Yes. Connect each Gmail account as its own inbox, up to 10 on Pro. ChatGPT reaches all of them through the one connector.
Does it work with Google Workspace work accounts?
Yes. Workspace accounts sign in with Google the same way. Some admins limit which apps can use company accounts, so you may need to ask yours to allow Inbox Triage.
Will my AI send email as me without asking?
No. Sending is off by default. When it is on, your AI shows you the full email and sends only after you approve it.
What permission does it ask Google for?
One Gmail permission, gmail.modify. It covers reading, drafts, sending an approved draft, labels, archive, star, spam, and Trash. It does not include permanent delete.
Does it sync my whole Gmail?
No. It keeps about the newest 300 messages per folder: Inbox, Sent, and Drafts by default. Your AI can search older mail through Gmail when you ask.
