How do I connect Outlook to Claude or ChatGPT?
- Create an Inbox Triage account. The trial needs no card.
- On the Inboxes page, add your Outlook or Microsoft 365 address and choose Connect. Sign in with Microsoft.
- Add Inbox Triage to your AI app once. In Claude, add a custom connector with
https://getinboxtriage.com/mcpand sign in. In ChatGPT, turn on Developer mode (paid plans) and create an app with the same address. In Claude Code, run one command. See the steps for each app. - Ask your AI: "Which emails need a reply from me this week?"
What your AI can do in Outlook
- Read and search your mail, including older mail through Outlook search.
- Show what needs you first, with your VIPs at the top.
- Archive, move to Deleted Items, or move to Junk. Each change can be undone for 7 days.
- Star (flag) messages.
- Write replies that appear in your Outlook Drafts folder, and send one after you turn sending on and approve it.
What it cannot do
- See your Microsoft password. Microsoft handles the sign-in.
- Send without your approval. Sending is off until you turn it on.
- Unsubscribe from newsletters. That works for Gmail, iCloud, and IMAP inboxes, not Outlook.
- Apply Gmail labels. Outlook has folders instead.
- Read Junk or Deleted Items.

Can I connect my work Outlook to ChatGPT?
Yes. Connect the Outlook inbox to Inbox Triage, then add Inbox Triage to ChatGPT as an app. ChatGPT can read, draft, and send after you approve each email.
Does it work with Microsoft 365 work and school accounts?
Yes, the same way as Outlook.com. If your organization only allows approved apps, your IT admin needs to approve Inbox Triage first.
My admin blocked it. What now?
Ask your IT admin to approve Inbox Triage for your account. It asks for offline_access, User.Read, Mail.ReadWrite, Mail.Send. Then choose Connect again. See Microsoft says I need admin approval.
Can my AI send email from Outlook?
Yes, after you turn sending on and approve that exact email. It goes out from your Outlook account and Outlook files it in Sent Items. If sending fails on an older Outlook connection, choose Connect again.
Will my AI see my Microsoft password?
No. You sign in on Microsoft's page. Inbox Triage gets a sign-in token, stored encrypted, and your AI never sees it.
Can I connect Outlook and Gmail together?
Yes. Each counts as one inbox. Pro covers up to 10, in any mix.
