How do I connect Yahoo Mail or AOL Mail to Claude or ChatGPT?
How do I connect a Yahoo or AOL inbox?
- Make an app password first. The steps are below.
- Sign in to Inbox Triage and open Inboxes.
- Enter a label, like "Yahoo", and your address. For yahoo.com, ymail.com, rocketmail.com, aol.com, aim.com and verizon.net addresses the mail server is filled in for you.
- Choose Add inbox. The private connect form opens.
- The Username is your full email address. Paste the app password into Password and choose Connect.
- Add Inbox Triage to your AI app if you have not yet. See Claude or ChatGPT.
Your AI never sees the password. You type it on our page, not in the chat.
What are the server settings?
| Service | IMAP server | Port |
|---|---|---|
| Yahoo Mail | imap.mail.yahoo.com | 993 |
| AOL Mail | imap.aol.com | 993 |
How do I make a Yahoo app password?
- Sign in at Yahoo Account Security.
- Turn on Two-step verification if it is off. Until it is on, Yahoo shows the app-password option greyed out. A phone number or an authenticator app both work.
- Choose Generate and manage app passwords. On some accounts it sits under Other ways to sign in.
- Choose Generate app password, name it Inbox Triage, and choose Generate password.
- Copy the 16-character password Yahoo shows you and paste it into the connect form. Yahoo shows it once.
If the option stays greyed out with two-step on, either the account is brand new (Yahoo waits a few days before allowing app passwords on a new account) or Yahoo has not yet judged your browser or device eligible. Its support team cannot override that. Try the Yahoo Mail app on your phone (Settings, Manage accounts, the account, Account info, Security, Generate app password), or a browser you have read Yahoo in for several days, not a private window, and try again in a day or two if needed. Yahoo's own page: Generate and manage third-party app passwords.
How do I make an AOL app password?
AOL works the same way as Yahoo. Sign in at AOL Account Security, turn on two-step verification, then generate an app password named Inbox Triage and paste it into the connect form.
What if Connect fails?
If the form says "Authentication failed. Check the username and mailbox password...", you most likely used your normal Yahoo or AOL password. Make an app password and use that. Also check that the username is your full address.
What if the connect form says the link expired or is closed?
The private connect form works for 10 minutes and closes after 5 failed tries. Choose Connect or Repair on Inboxes again, or ask your AI for a new link.
- Link expired: the 10 minutes ran out, or the link was already used. Start again from Inboxes.
- This link is now closed after too many tries: get a new link, and check the password before you paste it.
- Too many failed sign-ins today: after 20 failed tries in a day, wait a day and try again.
- Different account: you are signed in to another Inbox Triage account than the one that made the link. Sign in to the right account, or ask for a new link from your own.
What can my AI do with Yahoo or AOL mail?
The same as any IMAP inbox: read, search, archive, trash, mark as junk, star, and write drafts, with undo. It can send after you turn sending on and approve each email. See Connect other email over IMAP.
