How do I connect an IMAP inbox?
- On Inboxes, enter a label and the email address.
- If we find your mail server, it is filled in. Check it. If not, set Mail service to Other (IMAP) and fill in the server details, or pick the service under Common services.
- Choose Add inbox. The private connect form opens.
- Check the Username, enter the Password, and choose Connect.
What are the IMAP server settings?

Yahoo, AOL, Fastmail, and Zoho addresses get the server filled in for you. The Username is usually your full email address. The connection always uses SSL/TLS.
Which password do I use?
Many services, including Yahoo, AOL and Fastmail, want an app password instead of your normal password when another app connects. Create one in your mail service's security settings. You can revoke it there later. The private connect form shows the steps for the service it detects.

We test the password against your server before we store it. If the test fails, the new password is not saved, and whatever was there before stays.
What if Connect fails?

| "We could not find a mail server called ..." | The server name is wrong. Check the IMAP server name in your mail service's help pages. |
| "... did not answer on port ..." | Check the server name, and use port 993 (SSL/TLS). |
| "The connection to ... is not secure" | The server's certificate does not match the name. Use the exact server name your provider lists. |
| "Authentication failed" | Check the username, and use an app password instead of your normal password. |
What if the connect form says the link expired or is closed?
The private connect form works for 10 minutes and closes after 5 failed tries. Choose Connect or Repair on Inboxes again, or ask your AI for a new link.
- Link expired: the 10 minutes ran out, or the link was already used. Start again from Inboxes.
- This link is now closed after too many tries: get a new link, and check the password before you paste it.
- Too many failed sign-ins today: after 20 failed tries in a day, wait a day and try again.
- Different account: you are signed in to another Inbox Triage account than the one that made the link. Sign in to the right account, or ask for a new link from your own.
What can my AI do over IMAP?
- Read, search, archive, trash, mark as junk, and star, with undo.
- Search your synced folders on the server, including older mail there. To search Archive or another folder, ask it to search that folder by name.
- Write drafts, and send them after you turn sending on and approve each one.
For safety, we only connect to public mail servers. A server on a private network, like one at home behind your router, will not work.
