How do I let my AI send email?

Sending is off until you turn it on. Tell your AI "turn on sending" and confirm. Even then, every email waits for your approval before it goes out, unless you also set up Send on my behalf in Settings. Say "turn off sending" to stop it again.

How do I turn sending on?

Tell your AI: "turn on sending."
Confirm when it asks. It can only change this after you ask for it in the chat.
Your Activity page records "You turned on sending. Each send still needs your approval."

There is no switch for this in Settings. Only your AI can change it, and only after you ask in the chat.

What changes when sending is on?

With sending off, your AI can still write drafts. You send them from your mail app. With sending on, your AI can send a draft after you approve that exact email. Nothing is sent without your approval or a rule you set. See Can my AI send replies without asking each time?

The setting covers your whole account: Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook, Microsoft 365, iCloud, Yahoo, AOL, and other IMAP inboxes.

How do I turn sending off?

Tell your AI "turn off sending." Drafts keep working. Nothing can be sent, including sends under Send on my behalf, until you turn it back on.

What if an approval link says sending is turned off?

The page says "Sending is turned off for your account." Ask your AI to turn sending on, then open the link again.

How does sending work for each provider?

Inbox	Sends through
Gmail and Google Workspace	Gmail, from your Drafts folder
