How do I add a passkey or remove a trusted browser?
Open Settings, find Security, and choose Add a passkey. Passkeys are optional:
without one, you approve sends, spam reports, and unsubscribes with your password, or by signing in with Google again. Trusted browsers are listed in the same
card, each with Remove.
What is a passkey for?
A passkey lets you approve a send, a spam report, or an unsubscribe with Face ID, Touch ID, or a security key instead of typing your password. You do not need one. A yes in chat never approves anything, with or without a passkey.
How do I add a passkey?
- Open Settings and find Security.
- If asked, enter your password and choose Continue. If you sign in with Google, choose Sign in with Google again to add a passkey.
- Choose Add a passkey and follow your device's prompt.
To remove one, choose Remove next to it. Removing your last passkey asks you to use it one more time.
What is a trusted browser?
After you approve something with your password or passkey, that browser approves with one click for 90 days. Each trusted browser is listed under Trusted browsers in the Security card.
- Open Settings and find Security.
- Under Trusted browsers, choose Remove next to the browser.
To forget every trusted browser at once, use Sign out everywhere.
If it fails
- Your device shows no passkey option: approve with your password (or Google sign-in) instead. Nothing else changes.
- You lost the device with your passkey: approve with your password (or Google sign-in), then remove the old passkey in Settings.
- It says to confirm your email address first: use the link we emailed you, or send a new one from Settings, then try again.
